A story of how Christian coaching brings the pieces together into something beautiful

Updated: Apr 16, 2024

Pink flower Today is a good day

January has a mixture of emotions for many of us, maybe the hope of a brighter New year, mixed with the potential disappointment of the reality of many of our circumstances and if in the Northern hemisphere for some the drudgery that a cold persistent winter can bring. Some may ask will things ever change? Maybe my hopes are in vain, although I sense there is more I daren't allow myself to become disappointed again.

Interestingly the experience of Christian coaching can actually acknowledge and work with all three of these perspectives ; rather than wrestling against any of them we can begin to make use of all 3 to connect with the longing and struggle in our hearts, hear what God says about this and allow this and him to propel us forward

So, I would like you to hear a story of Christian coaching in action. A dear friend came to me; let's call her Mary, knowing she was made for something more and yet barely believing or hoping that this could be true. Too many knocks, losses and tragedies had made her feel lost, and depressed and yet she bravely reached out to meet up and explore how she was feeling and to see if there was a way forward.

Together we went through 4 sessions, where after exploring but not dwelling on her experiences so far, we then used some powerful coaching tools to unpack her God given desires, life values and hopes and dreams and she invited the Lord to speak into these precious truths and to show her beliefs that may be holding her back. Before the end of the third session she had discovered a desire to set something up that wonderfully pieced together her hardships, talents and natural inclinations which in her case were connecting with others, plants and gardening, alongwith showing others compassion and comfort in the face of loss.

Despite feeling some trepidation, armed with several pictures and words from God and a greater understanding of how he had made her to be , Mary made a plan with the Holy Spirit to set up a small ministry to bless those who had been bereaved or been through hard times by blessing them with carefully chosen plants and compassionate packs.

It has blossomed into a flourishing ministry using a team of volunteers to bless many who have been bereaved and traumatised and although Mary still needs ongoing reassurance encouragement and guidance she is definitely amazed at how far god has brought her and her new idea.

" I feel like i have given birth and I didn't even know I was pregnant " was her feedback after the four sessions .

And if we are tempted to think that Mary's experience is just out of our reach, we can lever ourselves back into truth using Psalm 27 verse 13: Still (despite all the rubbish) I am certain to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
