I have been spending many precious hours this year preparing and sharing truths to inspire people to be child like in listening to God, more expectant in hearing his voice and more daring in coming to him to hear heavens perspective.
It has been wonderful to watch people stepping out sometimes tentatively and sometimes boldly to ask him questions and to wait expectantly for him to answer.
For many this was a new adventure and of course the Holy Spirit was more than faithful to speak. Many tears of joy were shed by those who thought they didn't hear him, or realised that he had been speaking to them all along and they were now noticing it maybe for the first time.
In a recent workshop called Growing with the flow of hearing Gods voice we looked at things that can be in our 'I cant hear from God' box. One of these was not realising who we really are to God and how precious and valuable our child like questions are to him.
I just want to take a few moments to tell a story that really got me thinking about our worth.
I have been searching for a car to purchase recently and have spent many hours researching the market values of certain car makes, based on age and mileage and despite my newness at this have become pretty knowledgeable of what to look for and how to spot a bargain!
Yesterday I had an interesting experience of spotting a very stylish volkswagen camper van, on a reputable website against other similar vehicles which was priced at £5,800.
'Wow!' I thought, that's incredible! Low mileage, only 2018-but how can it be? Most others were going for at least 50k, It must be a mistake! I emailed the seller and went to sleep wondering how something so valuable could be priced so low and wondering what the story was behind this van.
Sure enough in the morning the price had been corrected to £58,000 and it left me thinking about value and worth.
So often due to human error (our upbringing, peoples actions and words against us, or certain circumstances) we may seem to have a value placed on us way below what we are worth. For some, you may have been rejected, passed over or even spoken badly of by others, Others may have suffered betrayal, abuse or simply the indifference of others to your presence.
All of this and more can lead us (often subconsciously) to believe that we really are worth this low price, surely otherwise we would be treated with higher importance.
This low sense of self worth can not only eat away at how we feel about ourselves but can also effect our confidence in coming boldly to our Father in heaven to ask him questions and wait for the answers. Why would we linger and wait and face even him passing us over. Does he really want to be with me?
And yet, hang on! He actually is our maker who says something very different about our worth which can reset this error if we believe what he says.
Just like the VW dealer who quickly put right the price of the precious beach camper, Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit have clearly spoken out about your worth to them. He sees you as priceless, worth giving everything for, and stopping at nothing to have a two way relationship with you.
He sent his dearly loved, only son to die for your sins so that you could be with him, So that you and I could walk, talk and be together in every situation with the maker of heaven and earth. . Wow!
We know the Christian answer to our worth, but I do challenge you at the beginning of this new year, to search your heart and ask yourself-what am I agreeing with? The value that others have mistakenly placed against me by their actions and words or the value that the God of all creation, my maker has wonderfully placed on me. Truly, deep down, which one am I agreeing with. And lets take steps to correct our worth
Take some time out today to meditate on the amazing truth-The Son of God loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2.20
And with that price against your value, begin this new year determined to agree with that truth, and reflecting how you can incorporate that belief into your every day life.
