Jesus our good shepherd; even in the valley

I write this blog as I am walking through a valley myself, so not from some aloof place that cannot be related to.

A most precious friend has recently gone to be with Jesus , a friend who taught me so many things through her life and most especially to trust and love and be loved by our good shepherd, whatever it may look like.

I have unsurprisingly been led to look at Psalmn 23 these days and am particularly drawn to the verse: "he prepares a table before me in the presence of my enemies, he anoints my head with oil, and my cup overflows. "

Yellow table setting

Several commentators have written about the table being prepared for David, being a picture of God treating David as his honoured guest, faithfully providing for him and lavishing his love on him. David must have felt so beloved by God, how amazing that in our dark days our Lord wants to stoop down, serve us, love us and be our good Shepherd.

We can take David's testimony as our own and look out for that table of provision, intimacy and fellowship with our Lord in the middle of our dark days.

A table that he himself has lovingly prepared for us.

Bill Johnson spoke about this as a moment when rather than focusing on our trouble, we look for the table of fellowship with the Lord,

And it doesn't stop there does it? As we fellowship with our Lord and receive his love and care-we are not out of sight of our enemies. In fact he makes the ultimate enemy of our souls watch this fellowship, table scene. Just when he thought he had won the victory.

So I want to encourage you today that there is a table of intimacy and fellowship with Jesus prepared for you as you walk through the valley. Look for it. Ask Jesus to lead you to it. let Jesus be your good shepherd even in the valley.

The apostle Paul underlined this truth so beautifully and decisively in Romans 8 verse 35-3 "NOTHING shall separate us from the Love of God. Neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the Love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

I realise more than ever that whatever questions we have, whatever need for direction we have, whatever pain or heart ache we have, the answer is found in the sweet presence and comfort and voice of our Good Shepherd.

Come and sit with him.

God Bless you

Rachel
